Mama Philomena Vincente has come to
symbolize the essence of authentic old
world, Neapolitan cooking, But, in truth, the
original family recipe was adjusted due to
the artful use of dynamite by her mischievous
grand-son Jeffrey "the gaspipe" Vincente.
Mama Philomena Vincente slapped Nick, her
husband, upside the head with a cast iron
frying pan when she heard the explosion in the
backyard. She looked out her window to see
her grand-son Jeffrey using dynamite that
Nick had showed him how to use.
She ran outside to access the damage.
They blew up her favorite olive tree that had
been grown from a seedling brought over
from Naples, in the old country. She went
back into the kitchen, after chastising them
both, and realized that she had spilled her
glass of wine into the sauce she was
cooking. She then added the vegetables
that blew off the vines into the sauces that
she was making. Her creations then came to
be the best marinara sauce that the family
has ever tasted.
